Should I Work Weekly vs. Biweekly in Therapy?

Therapy, like life, has its rhythms. For some, weekly sessions provide a steady beat, a consistent place to unpack and process. For others, biweekly sessions allow time for reflection and integration. But, maybe you’re wondering, which is right for you?
I notice the frequency can shape the depth of the work. Weekly sessions build momentum, diving deeper into unconscious material. And the continuity mirrors the regularity of early caregiving, creating a container where a trusting relationships can grow.
That said, the choice depends on your readiness and needs. Therapy flourishes not through frequency alone but through the quality of presence. If weekly feels too intense, biweekly can still provide profound connection—as long as the relationship feels attuned.
On another note, if you’re considering biweekly due to finances, I would ask yourself the following: how do I feel about my relationship and progress already? And how can I use the “off” week to keep the momentum (ie. journaling)?
Reflect on what pace feels nourishing, not overwhelming. The right rhythm isn’t about achieving more but about aligning with what allows you to feel supported. After all, healing unfolds not on a timetable but in the sacred timing of your own process.
